Choosing the Right Grit
Each grit serves a different purpose depending on where you are in your project:
120 Grit – Heavy Prep
Best for:
- Removing old finishes or rough surfaces
- Smoothing out imperfections
- Prepping raw wood or heavily worn pieces
This is your starting point when your surface needs more attention.
180 Grit – General Prep
Best for:
- Light sanding before painting
- Smoothing surfaces after initial prep
- Scuff sanding previously finished surfaces
This is your go-to everyday grit for most projects before applying Fusion Mineral Paint.
220 Grit – Fine Finishing
Best for:
- Sanding between coats of paint
- Wet sanding creating an ultra-smooth finish. Once the paint is dry, add a light mist of water to your sanding pad and gently go over your painted surface for an ultra smooth feel.
- Light distressing or final touch-ups
This grit helps you achieve that buttery smooth, professional feel Fusion is known for.
Pro Tip ✨
For the best results, start with a lower grit if needed and work your way up to a finer grit. And always remember—great prep leads to a flawless finish.
